On Christmas Eve, Jared Brigmon of Becker, Minnesota brought his girlfriend to Bling, her favorite store in the Crossroads Center in St. Cloud, to present her with a present that she will never forget.
WJON reported that Brigmon gave Misty Maurer a gift that held the keys to the store. To be hers. All of it.
“I barely pulled it off, but it all worked out,” says Brigmon. “I just wanted to give her something she could run and call her own.”
The St. Cloud Times reported that Brigmon had been talking to the owner of the women’s shoes and accessories store about purchasing it. Brigmon and Bling’s former owner, Joy Brandt, finalized the sale Tuesday evening.
“When I first heard about it I thought it was a joke,” Brandt told the radio station. “He said this was her favorite store and wanted to buy it for her and give it as a Christmas present.”
Brigmon had kept the purchase a secret and told Maurer that he needed to drop by the shop to pick up a last minute surprise.
“I didn’t have any idea. He kept telling me it was too big and he needed someone to help carry it,” Maurer said. She burst into tears when she realized the full extent of the surprise gift.
Brandt’s lease with the mall runs through January. She said she’ll work with Maurer to get her off to a good start. Brigmon, who operates a tree and landscaping service, will also be able to provide business advice.
Maurer and her daughters, Kylie, 8, and Kali, 7, have been loyal Bling customers, and have long enjoyed the shop’s selection of women’s accessories and shoes. As the emotion of the moment began to subside, one of the girls asked her, “Do we get everything for free now?”
