Byron Moore: Identify roadblocks to exiting business | The News Star | thenewsstar.com

"Question: My husband and I own a business. We have children in the business, but we honestly are not sure if they want to own it long term. In order for us to retire, we’ll either need to sell the business to our children or to a third party. I think we need to think about selling it, but my husband is reluctant to even discuss this. Any ideas?

Answer: If you’ve been married long enough to have adult children (and you’re still together), you’ve figured out that incessant nagging isn’t a good idea. So, congratulations there.

Here’s what “perfect” looks like: when your business’s preparedness, your personal readiness and your financial neediness all come together neatly at the same time. It makes a perfectly comfortable three-legged stool that provides ideal balance, timing and maximized value."
