Increased Lee County hiring expected | The News-Press | news-press.com

"Lee County business executives remained generally optimistic about the economy, but a few lingering issues may have tempered that outlook, according to a business climate survey released Wednesday.

The Executive Business Climate Index for the first quarter held at 66 on a 100-point scale, which indicates expected continued improvement in the local economy. That’s the same index as the fourth quarter, but up from 62 in the third quarter. The survey is conducted by FGCU and the Horizon Council, Lee’s economic development partnership.

Gary Jackson, director of the Regional Economic Research Institute at FGCU, said the stable index demonstrates executives are solidly positive, but remain cautious.

“They are optimistic about the economy, but there is some uncertainty out there and some issues that remain,” Jackson said, citing federal budget concerns, health care changes and tight credit markets as reasons for concern. “Those are still creating some caution and uncertainty.”"
